These special interest groups meet in the evening or daytime. As we kickoff this year, please
out the form and someone will contact you as soon as possible.
ADVOCACY This group will meet monthly to review what our State is doing legislatively and
will take action to support programs important to NCJW.
BOOK GROUP - Use form for more information.
CANASTA GROUP - This group meets weekly on Thursday evening. The group welcomes
beginners as well as experienced players. Beginners will be taught how to play and a
beginners’ table will be available should enough new players participate.
DONE IN A DAY - Different individuals take turns heading up different volunteer projects that
can be completed in one day. Most recently we helped prepare gifts and supplies for a very
special foster family weekend at the Child Crisis Nursery. Additional ideas are always welcome.
INTERNATIONAL DINING GROUP - This Group offers an opportunity to learn about a
different culture, enjoy delicious food, have interesting conversations and enjoy the
camaraderie of other NCJW members. The group will meet the first Thursday of the month at
5:30. Each month a different member will select an ethnic restaurant, research and present a
topic of her choosing and facilitate a conversation.
KNIT WITS AND HAPPY HOOKERS - Our knitting and crocheting group meets on Friday
afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 in the craft room at Pueblo Norte (7090 E. Mescal, Scottsdale)
and enjoys an on-going camaraderie. Freda Pine, our leader, has a wide choice of patterns for
the blankets we create and donate to the Project Linus Mission. Project Linus, a national
organization, strives to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who
are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need by giving each child a handmade blanket.
Our current group is limited to 10 members, but we will add groups and locations, as interest
requires. If you prefer, you can choose to contribute only by donating yarn or cash toward the
purchase of yarn. We welcome your support.
MOVIE MAVENS - This group meets monthly to view a movie and discussion over dinner.
Those joining the group will determine dates and times.
WRITING GROUP - This group will stretch your creative imagination. Your interpretation of
life is what matters as you sit before a blank page and begin writing without any intention of
what the result may be or how it might be used. There are no right or wrong “answers” in this
group. Some of the “rules” followed include: keep the pen moving; avoid thinking and planning
too much while writing; avoid editing spelling, grammar and, most importantly, ideas; and keep
your writing in a book and write consistently until filling it up. Join us from 1:30 to 3:30 on the
first and third Tuesday of each month at Barnes and Noble at 90th Street and Shea Blvd.
